The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), has returned a bronze statuette, Mercury or Antinoüs, to the Musée de la Chartreuse the 18th of January 2013. Provenance research at the MFA led to the discovery that the statuette had been part of the collection of the Musée de la Chartreuse, from which it was stolen in 1901. Since 1904 the Imperial Roman figure, dating to the 1st or 2nd century AD, has been in the MFA’s collection, where it has been identified as Mercury or Hermes, the messenger of the gods.
From March 23th to July 8th, 2013, the musée de la Chartreuse of Douai will present an exhibition dedicated to the sculptor Albert Bouquillon (1908-1997), born in Douai and Premier Grand Prix de Rome in 1934.
